100 posts deep & still a hot mess π
your fave queer boricua blogger is feeling generous (or manic, who knows?)
tl;dr: it's my 100th post! you get a free month, you get a free month, everybody gets a free month! thank you for your support, your love, and for your energy. iβm grateful for you.
hey mi gente! ππ½
can you believe it? this is my 100th post! we've made it to 100 posts without me having a complete mental breakdown or accidentally publishing my drafts folder full of embarrassing fanfiction. (oops, did i say that out loud? π)
listen, i know you're probably thinking, "edgard, how are you celebrating this milestone? popping champagne? taking a well-deserved nap? finally learning how to capitalize words correctly?"
iβm giving you a freebie!
nah, mi amor. i'm doing something way better. i'm giving you all a free month of my premium content! π
that's right. for the next 30 days, you get to dive deep into my chaotic mind without spending a dime. it's like that time i accidentally left my diary open at a party, but this time it's intentional and slightly less mortifying.
why am i doing this? well, partly because i'm terrible at math and this seemed easier than trying to calculate a percentage discount. but mostly because y'all have been riding this wild rollercoaster with me, tolerating my 3am rants about the sociopolitical implications of puerto ricoβs status dilemma and my never-ending quest to find the perfect mofongo in san diego.
mi gente, mi gente
y'know, all this gratitude has me feeling nostalgic. it reminds me of a moment in boricua history that perfectly captures how i feel about all of you.
bear with me for a sec while i go full puerto rican dad mode: back in 1974, during the rumble in the jungle (a major boxing fight between muhammad ali and george forman) in zaire, the legendary hΓ©ctor lavoe performed "mi gente" - a song that hits different when i think about this community we've built.
as he sang, "mi gente, (ustedes!) lo mΓ‘s grande de este mundo" (my people - you! - the greatest in this world), i couldn't help but think of this incredible community we've built together. you truly are the best thing i have, mi gente.
now, i'm not saying i'm the hΓ©ctor lavoe of substacks (though wouldn't that be something? lololol), but i do hope that in some small way, these posts bring a little of that same energy, that same connection, that same celebration of our culture and community.
mil gracias to you
so, mi gente, this isn't just about 100 postsβit's a thank you to each of you who've made this journey possible.
to my day ones, the lurkers, the passionate commenters, and everyone in between: gracias.
your support, whether silent or loud, keeps me going when imposter syndrome hits harder than a chancla thrown by an angry abuela.
this free month is my promise to keep bringing you unfiltered, unapologetic content. to keep growing and evolving with you. to maintain this space as vibrant and beautifully messy as our community.
here's to 100 more posts of queer chaos, boricua brilliance, and yes, the occasional (okay, frequent) existential crisis. here's to the connections we've built in this little corner of the internet.
ahora sΓ, vamos a celebrar! ππ₯³ not just 100 posts, but usβthis incredible, chaotic, beautiful community.
gracias por todo, mi gente -
edgard πβπ½π
p.s. if you're a free subscriber, congrats! you just got upgraded to premium for a month. if you're already a paid subscriber, your next month is on me. and if you're my ex reading this, well... i hope you're enjoying the free content, because that's all you're getting. π
p.p.s. seriously though, thank you all for being here. your support means more to me than words can express (and y'all know i never run out of words). here's to many more posts, laughs, and shared moments of beautiful, messy humanity. πβπ½π
p.p.p.s i said mi gente so much in this post that i would be remiss - nay, i would commit malpractice - if i didnβt throw in j. loβs hilarious βmi gente latinoβ meme.
Exciting!!!! thank you!
