hey mi gente!

big news: i'm shaking things up around here (again), and i couldn't be more thrilled to share it with you.

"edgard magazine, no me jodas!" i cracked up as soon as my friend said that to me. it was his birthday and as a prank i pretended to try to blow the candles out of his cake. my friend was basically saying that i was trying to steal his attention - like i had my own magazine, or something.

so i have to confess, this is not the first time someone has said this to me, haha. come to think about it some of my favorite villains in many stories are magazine editors - patsy stone, wilhemina slater, miranda priestly. eight year old roxanne downs takes it up a notch by holding the record of youngest magazine editor in the world in the guiness world book of records.

has the fantasy of owning a magazine crossed my mind? yes.

am i indulging it right now with this rebrand? definitely.

welcome to the all-new, freshly rebranded... drumroll, please... edgard!

out with the old, in with the... me?

that's right, mis amores. "essays from the heart; among other things" is done, fini, kaput.

the old blog is now making way for something more personal, authentic, and dare i say… fabulous!

why the change, you ask? well, i'll let you in on a little secret: i was starting to cringe at the old name. like that regrettable haircut you got in high school, it just wasn't feeling like me anymore.

this space has grown beyond heartfelt essays (though they're still my pan sobao y mantequilla). i don't want to be typecast as just the "love and light" person – because while that's part of who i am, i'm also the guy who occasionally sets the kitchen on fire or acts like a little shit.

so, allow me to unveil a publication that's all of me – essays, music, poetry, art, soul, and yes, the occasional embarrassing moment (we all have them, right?). it's me, unfiltered and imperfect, served up with a side of sofrito.

what's new? (spoiler: almost everything)

1. new name: i’m keeping it simple. from now on, this is just “edgard”. because, let's face it, i'm anything but "just" anything.

2. fresh look: we've got a sleek new color palette (hello, vibrant red and warm cream!), fancy fonts, and a logo that screams "edgard" louder than i do at karaoke night. i’m obsessed with the retro look.

3. clearer focus: expect the same mix of personal essays, political commentary, queer perspectives, and puerto rican power. but now, it's all unmistakably, unapologetically... me.

what's staying the same?

1. my commitment to you: to inspire, to inform, and to love. that's not just a tagline, it's my promise.

2. the content you love: heartfelt stories, spicy takes, the latest in hillcrest, and the occasional terrible pun(s).

3. our amazing community: you! because without you, this is just me talking to myself (which i do anyway, but it's much more fun with you here).

why should you care?

look, i get it. change can be scary. but here's the thing: this rebrand isn't about changing who i am or what this space means. it's about embracing it fully. it's about creating a home that truly reflects the community we've built together.

this is more than just a new coat of paint. it's a recommitment to authenticity. a recommitment to vulnerability and to the messy, complicated stories that make us beautifully human.
