i'm ghosting your inbox (but wait, there's a plot twist!) π±π
the scandalous truth about our new relationship (plus, a secret mission to save hillcrest!)
tl;dr: big changes, mi gente! new power-packed schedule (mondays: deep dives, thursdays: one queer thing, saturdays: queer chaos), plus hillcrest tea and substack recs. oh, and URGENT: uptown community planning elections TOMORROW - scroll to the bottom for the juicy details on how to make hillcrest gayer and better than ever! π³οΈπ(affordable housing and good public transport, anyone?)
hey mi gente! ππ½
plot twist, yβall! π you know how i love to keep you on your toes, right? well, hold onto your cafecito because i'm about to drop a change on you faster than my abuela switches telenovelas. we're shaking things up around here, and we're doing it right now. like, today. surprise! π
lately, i've been on a quest to find the holy grail of content creation. you know, that perfect balance between "omg, i need more" and "please, for the love of all things queer, stop clogging my inbox." and then, like a glitter bomb in a library, i discovered
's newsletter over at .thanks to jamie's newsletter, i had a revelation: what if i became the adele of essays instead of the beyoncΓ© of blogs? you know, less frequent but always a banger.
but let's spill the real tea: this shake-up isn't just about your inboxes. your favorite queer puerto rican blogger is juggling more balls than a circus performer:
starting a demanding semester at san diego city college with a full time job (hello, ramen dinners and caffeine-fueled all-nighters!)
surprise election as second vice president of the kiwanis club of hillcrest all inclusive (yay!)
secretly training to become a professional yodeler (okay, i made that one up, but the others are legit)
so, drumroll please... π₯
the new and improved schedule (starting today!)
mondays: deep dives, hillcrest shenanigans, or personal essays (next monday is the next episode of the puerto rico deep dive series!)
thursdays: one queer thing (get ready for some rainbow-tinted goodness in 3 days)
saturdays: introducing "this week in queer chaos" (debuting this saturday, august 24th)
on the days in between: well, iβll be touching grass, going to the gym, sleeping, and studying, haha. you know, doing things and collecting ideas and living! so i can write more. and write better.
think of it as marie kondo-ing your inbox. less clutter, more joy. each post will be like that friend who doesn't text often, but when they do, you drop everything because you know it's gonna be good.
there may be times where i may post on days where i am scheduled not to - these will likely be things i definitely cannot pass up: community things, politics, personal, whatever. but for the most part, i will limit my posting to spare you!
but wait, there's more! (because i'm physically incapable of doing less)
reader spotlights: your brilliance, front and center. each week, i'll feature the spiciest takes, most thought-provoking comments, and wildest questions from you, mi gente. whether you're debating if cereal is soup or sharing your queer awakening story, this is your chance.
substack sommelier selections: as your resident substack hoarder (132 and counting - send help and maybe an intervention), i'll be your guide through the wilderness of newsletters. each week, i'll recommend a substack that's been living rent-free in my mind, complete with tasting notes. "ah yes, this 2023 newsletter has notes of existential dread with a hint of pop culture references. pairs well with a midnight identity crisis."
hillcrest hotspot: i'll be sprinkling hillcrest content throughout all posts. expect the tea on events, the uptown community planning group, local organizations to join, volunteer opportunities, and meeting times. spoiler alert: you'll probably find me at most of these, so come say hi! think of it as your queer community cheat sheet - all the ways to get involved without having to scroll through 50 different instagram accounts.
these new features are all about creating a more interactive, valuable experience for you. think of it as our little queer book club, but with less wine (or more, i don't judge) and more fabulously diverse content.
quick poll: which new feature has you most excited?
wrapping it up
change can be scarier than wearing white after labor day, but i'm excited about this new direction. remember, this space is for us to laugh, learn, and ponder life's great questions, like "why is it called a pair of pants when it's one item?"
stay tuned - on monday of next week, the next installment on my puerto rico deep dive series is coming! click here for the last episode so you can catch up.
we are almost done with the series, we have two more episodes left. so, tell me: what burning questions do you want answered in our puerto rico deep dive? tell me in the comments.
hasta la prΓ³xima, mis amores! π
edgardβπ½π
p.s. if you're thinking "thank goodness, i was drowning in edgard's thoughts," don't worry. i'll just assume you're playing hard to get. two can play that game, honey. π
p.p.s. seriously though, your support means everything. let's make this space even more fabulous together. slide into those comments and let's keep this party going!
honey, we're voting tomorrow! π³οΈπ³οΈβπ
mi gente, quick reminder - drop everything (except your phone, obvs) β uptown community planning groupβs elections are TOMORROW! this is not a drill, it's gayer than a unicorn riding a rainbow.
the tea, real quick:
register to vote online: if you do, check your inbox/texts now
register to vote and vote in-person: aug 20, 6-8pm, bard hall @ first united universalist church
bring proof you live in uptown (your encyclopedic knowledge of local drag queens doesn't count)
why care? because this decides who's in charge of our queer neighborhood's glow-up. housing, public spaces, maybe even more rainbow crosswalks (a queen can dream).
need the full tea? peep my spicy blog "beyond the ballot: uptown's urban revolution" for all the deets and my hot takes on who to vote for.
don't let the straights decide our fate. vote like your favorite gay bar's happy hour depends on it!
questions? slide into my DMs or email contact@uptowncommunityplanning.org.
let's make hillcrest fiercer than ever, mis amores! πβπ
p.s. no vote = no complaining about parking for a year. i don't make the rules, i just enforce them with a glitter-covered fist.
iβm screaming at the literal photo of touching grass on the schedule πΉπΉπΉπΉ
This is so great! I was always sad that I'd miss your Friday emails because my inbox is always a mess on that day. Thanks for being so mindful!
